KWIS Community Advisory Committee

KWIS’s Community Advisory Committee (CAC), the local group mandated by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, is charged with assessing and reporting the needs of the community served by KWIS to the governing board and management of KWIS.

Members are appointed by the Local Station Board and meetings are held once per quarter, usually on the 2nd Thursday of every 3 months  from 1:00 p.m  to 2:00 p.m.

Meetings are open to the public.

The KWIS Community Advisory Board provides a vehicle for community input to the KWIS Local Station Board and Station Manager about station programming, community service and impact on the community from the station’s major policy decisions.

The primary function of the KWIS Community Advisory Committee is to provide community input on KWIS programming.

The Community Advisory Committee provides a stabilizing influence so organizational concepts and directions are established and maintained with a visionary view. The Community Advisory Committee provides insight for KWIS Program Proposals in support of KWIS’ Mission.

KWIS Radio is a non-commercial, educational radio station dedicated to preserving the culture, language and history of Coeur d’Alene Tribal members. KWIS serves to bridge the gaps between Native and non-Native communities and strives to educate and enhance cultural awareness through programming and affiliated content.

Members of the Committee ensure that the content is in accordance with the Policies of the Station. In practice these responsibilities are carried out by performing the following functions:

  • Review Program Proposals;
  • Monitor content and ensure the program is following the proposal as necessary;
  • Resolve program conflicts with Station Manager.

Current CAC Board Members: Cajetan Matheson, Sam Abrahamson, Cheffrey Sailto, Dr. Chris Meyer, Sarah Freeburg, Quanah Matheson and appointed  Benewah Medical/ Wellness Center representative. 

Upcoming CAC Public Meeting:

The KWIS Community Advisory Board (CAC) will be holding its next meeting from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at KWIS Radio Station, located in the I.T. Building at 111 N. 8th Street Plummer, ID.

The final meeting for 2016 will be on December 8th.

We invite individuals and representatives from local community organizations to join us to share your ideas and proposals about KWIS programming, community services and policy decisions and how they address the specific needs of our  community.
